About Dr. Maria Tecla Artemisia Montessori
August 31, 1870 – May 6, 1952
An Italian physician and educator, twice nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, Dr. Maria Montessori is also the first woman to get a doctorate in medicine in Italy. Best known for her writings on scientific pedagogy, combined with psychology and anthropology, Maria observed that children raised in a self-learning environment tend to be able to develop and reach their full potential. Dr. Montessori’s philosophy and education method is still widely used in public and private schools around the world today.

Montessori vs Traditional Education
Traditional education methods generally take on a more spoon-fed approach which can tend to produce students with an inferiority complex. It has been shown that a good degree of students were unable to advance further in education using the traditional method of teaching.
Under the guidance of the instructor, applying Montessori educational philosophy, the teacher cultivates independence, freedom within limits and a sense of order. The child, through individual choice, makes use of Montessori learning materials that are meticulously arranged in an aesthetically pleasing environment.
